- Spreads the point-shaped star into a light bar
- Suitable for all Cassens & Plath sextants
- Can be used with all horizon mirrors
- For retrofitting
The star-spreading glass spreads the point-shaped star into a horizontal light bar. In addition, an inclination of the sextant is recognised immediately.
The star-spreading glass can be attached to the sextant as a 5th glass in the index direction and can be used with all horizon mirrors.
The star spread glass is fitted to the POLARIS sextant and can be retrofitted to our other sextant models (except CPSailing). It is located behind the shadow glasses in the index direction. The star-spreading glass can be used with all horizon mirrors. However, the star spreader glass cannot be used together with the double prism pupil.
As the name suggests, the glass spreads the light point of a celestial body (stars and planets) into a horizontal line.
This provides two advantages when observing celestial bodies:
- It simplifies observation, as a horizontal line can be brought more easily onto the horizon.
- An inclination of the sextant can be clearly recognised
